I don’t have a lot to say right now, but I thought I’d just give a quick update about what I’ve been working on, what I’ve been playing, and how I’ve been feeling.
As always, I’m working on my game engine, Macabre2D. This past weekend, I got auto-tile maps working. It’s been pretty cool to mess around with, but I’m getting ready to move on to the next step. I think this weekend I will be writing an algorithm that can generate colliders based on a tile map. This automates a huge part of game development and I’m very excited. Since doing auto-tile maps, I’ve mostly been fixing bugs and cleaning up code. I had a mess of code that dealt with sprites in the editor that was completely unnecessary, so I tore all that out and got everything working again.
I’ve also been working on a new music project called Comet Overdrive. I wish I could tell you a planned genre, but the whole point of this project is that I’m going to do whatever I’m feeling at the time. Right now I have a four song acoustic demo recorded that I’m working on mastering. I’m pondering adding a bass track, some backup vocals, and percussion. We’ll see how it all pans out.
My friends and I have been playing Divinity: Original Sin 2 as if it were a D&D campaign and we’re having a ton of fun. Love those dudes. I also picked up Fire Emblem: Three Houses and it’s the first Fire Emblem game I’ve managed to really get into. I’m not super far yet, but I hear some cool stuff is ahead. I grabbed Dicey Dungeons on release as well and that’s filling a run-based hole in my heart.
My pain and fatigue have been awful lately, but I’ve been working to find the positive things in life. I’ve got a beautiful wife, the best friends a dude could ask for, and four cats that give me more love than I could ever deserve. Despite all the problems, life could be a lot worse and sometimes I just need to remind myself of that.
